The general secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. John Boadu who earlier on responded to Mr. Kwabena Agyapong’s suspension being revoked, said in an interview with Accra-based radio station Asempa FM which was keenly monitored by THE PUNCH GHANA that he looks forward to carrying out his duties through to 2028.
After Ghana drafted the 1992 constitution which gives individuals two-terms which sums up to a period of eight (8) years, no individual or political party has been able to break the eight (8)-year barrier.
Mr. Boadu looks forward to seeing this through and has no quest in contesting for the National Chairmanship Position. He opined that being the National Chairman is like getting to the top of the mountain and from there the only other positions are flagbearer which could lead you to becoming President of the Country which is of no interest to him.
It looks like there are interesting times ahead although the major opposition party still feels there were elementary errors made in the 2020 General Elections which have led them to petitioning the Supreme Court of the country.
It will be extremely interesting to see how the 2024 elections will go since the two (2) major parties would have to go through a strong primary phase to bring out candidates who are strong enough to claim back power on the part of the NDC and to break the 8-year barrier on the part of the NPP.
