There have been several reports and rumours which were going round the country that former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Mr. Kwabena Agyapong’s suspension has been revoked.
Current General Secretary Mr. John Boadu has stated clearly that the ban is ongoing and it is above him or the powers which comes with his position to reinstate Mr. Agyapong to steer the affairs of the party.
Mr. Boadu further reiterated that Mr. Agyapong has officially written to certain segments of the party’s hierarchy his desire to come back but he personally wrote to him that such decisions needs to be taken by the hierarchy (a National Executive Council) whose members will be meeting in the month of March, 2021.
Mr. Agyapong is not the only person who has been suspended by the party. Vice-Chair Mr. Sammy Crabbe and former Chairman, Paul Afoko were given indefinite suspensions in 2015 for what the party deemed as “extreme misconduct”.
The suspension of these men is something we as individuals must learn something from. Every organization or household has roles, rules and boundaries. Everyone needs to perform their roles but must consult the hierarchy for support so that they wouldn’t be surprised if a certain decision catches hot air or results in unfavorable outcomes.
Mr. Agyapong in particular took certain decisions and performed activities without the authorization by the party’s National Executive Council.
It will be great to see him back in the party as he has stuck with the party through thick and thin and can contribute to the development of Ghana.
